WELLSBURG NY - Earl C. Wintermute, 82, of Coryland, PA, passed away and went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Troy Community Hospital, Troy, PA. He was the loving husband of Genevieve A. (Winslow) Wintermute. The couple married September 7, 1947 and had 62 wonderful years together. Earl was born on April 1, 1927 in Wyalusing, PA, son of the late John S. and Bertha (Garey) Wintermute. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European Theatre as a medic. In his younger days, Earl helped build and operate Mom's Diner and Pop's Station where the present day Tomahawk restaurant in Towanda, PA stands today. Earl became a machinist at Kennedy Valve in Elmira, NY until his retirement on June 1, 1987 and was a member and past president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union. He also enjoyed woodworking and was a longtime member and past president of the Endless Mountains Woodworkers Association. Motorcycles were one of Earl's passions and he enjoyed riding them with the Three Rivers Motorcycle Club and could be seen working part time at Bob's Chamberlain's Cycle Shop in Sayre, PA. Earl was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman. His life in and service to Christ Jesus was most important to Earl. He was a past member and Deacon in the North Side Baptist Church in Elmira, and the Coryland Baptist Church, and was a current member and Senior Deacon in the Bentley Creek Baptist Church. In the Bentley Creek Church he also served on the Pulpit Committee and was a Trustee. Moreover, Earl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Earl is survived by his wife Genevieve, his children: Nancy (John) Lattimer, Beverly (Fred) Smith, Mike (Norine) Wintermute, Dan (Denise) Wintermute, all of Coryland, PA, Steve (Linette) Wintermute of Gillett, PA, and Chris (Kanae) Wintermute of Tokyo, Japan, 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and several brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his son Gerald, his granddaughter Wendy Lattimer, his brothers John and Norm, and his sister Evelyn. Family and friends are welcome to call from 6:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, March 14, 2010 and again from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM on Monday March 15th at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. The funeral service to celebrate Earl's life will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home with his son-in-law, Pastor John Lattimer of Faith Baptist Church in Canton, PA, officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service in Bradford County Memorial Park in Luthers Mills, PA where millitary rites will be given. Memorial contributions may be made in Earl's memory to the charity of one's own choosing.
