YORK – Demetre G. Franzis, 78, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at York Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 2500 Pine Grove Rd., York with his priest, Father Andrew Tsikitas officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born August 15, 1934 in Kalymnos, Greece a son of the late George and Katherine Franzis, he retired from BMY and previously worked at AMF. Prior to immigrating to the US, Mr. Franzis served in the Hellenic Army in Greece. Demetre had a kind heart and would often be found helping the needy in York City and enjoyed caring for and feeding stray animals. Mr. Franzis is survived by his former wife, Elvira S. Franzis of York; a son, Peter G. Franzis of York; a daughter, Irene D. Franzis of York; a brother, Vasilios Dalmatis of Greece; and a sister, Angelica Dalmatis of Greece. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Demetre may be made to assist Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, PO Box 548, York, PA 17405 and York Rescue Mission, 367 W. Market St., York, PA 17401 with feeding those in need during the Thanksgiving Holiday; contributions may also be made to SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.
