WINDSOR TOWNSHIP- Deborah K. "Debbie" Lookingbill, 60, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at York Hospital. A Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion. Certified Celebrant Betty Frey will be officiating at the service. Viewings will be from 6-9 p.m. on Monday and 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Freysville Zion U.M. Cemetery. Debbie was born in York on July 28, 1949, a daughter of the late Kenneth H. Flaharty and Betty M. (Kauffman) Kurtz and leaves a step-father, Charles R. "Dick" Kurtz of Red Lion. Debbie's community activities included her becoming a Candy Striper from 1965-1967, a member of Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council of York where she served as a Leader and had numerous positions on the Service Line, and she was a member of the United Way. She was a 1967 graduate of Red Lion Area Senior High School. She attended York Hospital School of Nursing from 1967-1970, where she received her Registered Nursing Degree. While attending school she worked as a Nurse's Assistant at the hospital. From 1970-1977 she served as a Staff Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit as well as a Charge Nurse. She has been the Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit Nurse Manager since 1977 and was currently the Clinical Director of the Surgical Service Line of five nursing units and she oversaw the Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit, the Imaging RN's and the P1 nurses of the Surgical Service Line. Debbie completed numerous Continuing Education programs through Wellspan, along with receiving a Certificates of Participation in Crucial Conversations, Building Collaborative Teams, and completed the Human Research Protection Program. She served on the York Hospital Leadership Council and completed the Wharton Nursing Leaders Program in 2004 from the University of Pennsylvania. She was granted CCRN status in Adult Critical-Care Nursing and was currently working on her BSN through Penn State, where she was named to the Dean's List in fall 2008 Semester. She received her Certificate of Achievement for 35 years of Service at York Hospital, but had served the hospital for a total of 42 years. She was recently instrumental in helping York Hospital become a Level 1 Trauma Center, along with her participation in the early 1980's in the start of York hospital becoming a Regional Resource Trauma Center. Debbie was a member of American Organization of Nurse Executives, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Trauma Society for Nurses, PA Association of Nurse Leaders, South Central Organization of Nursing Leaders, and York Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. She received her certificates as a Critical Care Nurse, Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. In addition to her step-father, Debbie leaves a brother, Barry L. Flaharty and his wife Kim of York; a stepsister, Cindy Fortney and her husband Greg of Felton; a nephew Brady Flaharty, and two great nephews Bryan and Michael Flaharty.
