David H. Loy

York—David H. Loy, 66, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011 at his home in York Township. He was the husband of Sharon K. (Pflueger) Loy, to whom he was married for 38 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 am, Friday, June 10, 2011 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, with his pastor, the Rev. Kevin T. Shively, officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements. Born November 20, 1944 in Chambersburg, David was a son of the late Harold G. and Margaret (Means) Loy. After graduating from high school, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded a Bronze Star for his ground operations against hostile forces. After his active duty in Vietnam, he served for 17 years in the United States Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1988 with the rank of Major. David was employed as a Mechanical Engineer for many years and worked for various local companies including Allis-Chalmers, Voith Hydro and St. Onge Company. For the remainder of his career, he was self-employed as an engineering consultant. A member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in York, David was also a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity at Drexel University, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He enjoyed studying his family’s genealogy, was a talented woodworker and artist, and loved traveling, skiing and playing the guitar. In addition to his wife, David is also survived by one daughter, Sarah (Loy) Yeager and husband, Richard of Phoenixville, one son, Joshua C. Loy and wife Nicole of Baltimore, MD, one brother, Jeffrey A. Loy and wife Holly of Clearwater, FL, four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Chalmers, Rennick and Willem, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard M. Loy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 55 S. Progress Ave, Harrisburg, PA 17109 and Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
