NEW CUMBERLAND- Clayton E. Buzz Tennis, Jr., 77, of Fairview Township, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital in Camp Hill. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Frances D. (Gaffney) Tennis. A service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 863 Lewisberry Rd. in Lewisberry, with a viewing from 10-11:30 a.m. His pastor, The Reverend Timothy L. Hoffman will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Tri County Memorial Gardens in Lewisberry. A flag folding will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Beaver-Urich Funeral Home, Inc. 305 W. Front Street in Lewisberry is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Tennis was born in New Cumberland on May 9, 1933, a son of the late Clayton E. and Emma J. (Ridley) Tennis. He retired after 35 years as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for the former Bethlehem Steel in Steelton. Mr. Tennis was a member of Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewisberry and was a 1951 graduate of New Cumberland High School. He enjoyed playing in senior softball leagues for many years, spending time with his grandchildren, his cat and enjoyed camping. He served in the US Navy and served as Commander for the US Navy Seabees Veterans Association of Harrisburg. Mr. Tennis leaves two daughters, Colleen M. Tennis of Etters and Eileen M. Kell (George) of Etters; two sons, Clayton E. Skip Tennis, III (Angela) of Lewisberry and John J. Tennis (Jeanne) of Pine Grove; six grandchildren, Nicole Tennis, Mandy Tennis, Lauren Kell, Derrick Kell, Alyssa Tennis, and Adrianna Tennis; two great grandchildren, Alexander and Addyson Tennis; two sisters, Mildred Sis Rudy (Stewart) and Doris Barber; several nieces and nephews and two uncles. A sister, Betty Tennis, preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to St, Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
