YORK- Betty L. (Weisner) Knott, 92, entered into eternal life April 2, 2015 at York Hospital. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Glenn L. Knott with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with her Pastor, The Reverend Kevin T. Shively officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Born in York on January 5, 1923, Betty was the daughter of the late Charles and Edna (Reisinger) Weisner. She had resided at Barley’s Autumn House West since July 2014. Prior to that she lived in the same residence for 86 years. Betty was a graduate of William Penn Senior High School class of 1941. She was a lifelong faithful member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and the Gleaner’s Sunday School Class. Betty was also a member of the former sewing circle, Senior Bible Study and the Half-Century Fellowship. She was a proud lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the West York VFW Post 8971. Betty was a homemaker and like many of her greatest generation served as a Girl Scout leader, homeroom mother and a volunteer for church and community organizations. Mrs. Knott is survived by a daughter, Debra L. Shimmel and her husband Larry of Harbeson, Delaware; a grandson, Lt. Col. David E. Bentzel, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Potomac, Maryland; two step-grandchildren, Jenifer A. Ruth and Jason R. Shimmel, both of York; two great grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren and two step-great great grandchildren.
