Betty C. (Myers) Wantland

YORK – Betty C. (Myers) Wantland, 90, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Rest Haven. She was the wife of the late Dean S. Wantland whom she married on August 17, 1946. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with her pastor, The Rev. Paul W. Gausmann officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 PM Thursday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born August 18, 1926 in York, a daughter of the late Charles J. and Esta R. (Allgire) Myers, she had worked for Food Fair Supermarket as a young adult. Betty loved bowling and was a member of the Women’s International Bowling Congress. She also enjoyed knitting, cooking, and was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church. Mrs. Wantland is survived by a son, James D. and wife Karen Wantland of Natrona Heights; a daughter, Brenda J. McCleary of York; four grandchildren, Andrew Wantland and fiancé Pam Ducar, Renee Wantland along with Sam Hodgson, Michael and wife Kim McCleary, and James and wife Lisa McCleary; five great grandchildren, Ashley Santos, Ian McCleary, Jordan Hansford, Maclean Wantland and Josie McCleary; two great great granddaughters, Madison Santos and Aubrey Hansford; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Trinity Rd., York, PA 17408 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Center, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
