Bertha E. (Weidow) Merritt

LOCK HAVEN - Bertha E. (Weidow) Merritt, 89 passed away, Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Lock Haven Extended Care Unit. She was married to Donald L. Merritt who died in 1995. Bertha was born in Kane, Pa on December 16, 1921 the daughter of George and Gladys (Roum) Weidow. She worked as a clerk for the former Time and Talent Craft Store. Bertha was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ she served on church council as benevolent treasurer and also a lay reader. She was treasurer of the Good Samaritan Fund. Bertha was an avid reader and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. She loved dogs, cats, the woods, rivers, creeks, and wild water. Bertha did every kind of needlecraft. Surviving are two daughters Lois E. Merritt of Ypsilanti, MI also Jean J. Merritt of Philadelphia, PA also two grandchildren Brenda Mowrey and Jessica Merritt also three great-grandchildren Christopher and Matthew Mowrey, Luna Olivia Lafferty. One brother Lester Weidow of West Decatur, PA She was preceded in death by a step-father Peter J. Ruggiers and also one brother. The funeral service will be held at Noon on Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall with Pastor Patty Dodds officiating. Friends and relatives will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to the Annie Halenbake Ross Library, 232 W.
