YORK – Arthur W. “Sandy” Schlieper, Jr., 71, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of Rebecca M. (Rice) Schlieper to whom he was married for over 50 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Certified Celebrant Jessica Smith officiating. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 PM Saturday at the Funeral Chapel. Born May 11, 1944 in Portsmouth, NH; a son of the late Doris M. (Campbell) and Arthur W. Schlieper, Sr., he was a 1962 graduate of Portsmouth High School. As a young man, Sandy earned his Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow designations from Boy Scouts of America. He then graduated from The US Naval Academy Preparatory School and University of New Hampshire. He was a veteran of the US Naval Reserves. Sandy advanced his career in the packaging industry from salesman to plant manager to business owner; a Sales Consultant for Penn Jersey Paper, and operating TIECO Sales and Metro Pak, Inc. as a part of his successful career. He was a member of The Outdoor Country Club and numerous antique car clubs and organizations. Sandy was known as "the Sandman" by his friends and had a zest for life that was contagious. He enjoyed boating and golfing, but his passion for cars, especially vintage Jaguars, began at an early age, created cherished friendships and was a lifetime adventure. In addition to his wife, Sandy is survived by two daughters, Kelly A. and husband Mike Berard of Meridian, ID and Brett M. and husband Patrick Toy of Creedmoor, NC; four grandchildren, Emily and Bryce Toy and Jake and Tim Berard; one sister, Jean Cave of Torrington, CT; and four brothers, Mark and wife Pam Schlieper of Rye, NH, Scott and wife Heather Schlieper of West Milford, NJ, John Schlieper of Marathon Key, FL, and Bruce and wife Lisa Schlieper of Portsmouth; and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 224 Saint Charles Way, Suite 200, York, PA 17402.
