GLEN LYON- Alfred "Al" R. Noss, 85, of Glen Lyon, died Sunday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Plains Township. Born in Glen Lyon, on June 16, 1924, he was a son of the late Raymond and Victoria Mayewski Noss. He was a graduate of Newport Township High School and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. Al worked as an agent with MetLife Insurance and was also employed in the Recorder of Deeds office at the Luzerne County Courthouse. After retiring, he worked as a part time associate for Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Homes in Wilkes-Barre and Avoca for over 8 years. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish-St. Adalberts Church. Al was a member of the Glen Lyon Hose Company, he served for 2 years as the Newport Twp. Fire Chief and was a member of Luzerne County Fire Chief's Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke and American Legion Post 539, Glen Lyon, as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8353, Glen Lyon. Al was a member of the Newport Twp. Lions Club, where he was a charter member. He was a founding member of Newport Twp. Little League Basketball and involved with Newport Twp. Bitty Basketball. He was a member of the Italian American Sporting Club, Glen Lyon. He served on the Newport Twp. School Board for many years, and was the Judge of Elections in Newport Township. He was a member of the Berwick Senior Citizen's Group where he served as treasurer. He was an avid Berwick Football fan and was active with the Berwick Football 12th Man Booster Club. Al was preceded in death by; his stepbrother, Narcy Trynoski, and faithful dog, Bucky. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Gladys Lenora Webber; sons, Paul Noss and his wife, Mary Ellen Mayewski, Plains; Robert James Noss and his fiancçª Sherri McAnulty, Red Rock; grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Noss; nieces; nephews; and pets, Hershey, Nittany and Angel. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 AM from George A. Strish Funeral Home, Inc. 211 West Main Street, Glen Lyon, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Corpus Christi Parish-St. Adalbert's Church, with Reverend Joseph Kutch officiating. Interment will follow in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Newport Township. Friends may call Wednesday from 5:00PM to 8:00PM and Thursday from 8:30-9:30AM at the George A. Strish Funeral Home, Inc, Glen Lyon. The VFW Post 8353 in conjunction with the American Legion Post 539 will conduct a service on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Newport Twp. Lions Club or the Berwick Senior Center. Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., Wilkes-Barre is in charge of arrangements. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke and American Legion Post 539, Glen Lyon and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8353, Glen Lyon.
